The Surgical FirstAssist functions as a First Assistant or as an additional assistant to thesurgeon, within scope of practice. Provides scrub and/or circulating nurseservices within scope or practice in the operating room during surgicalprocedures and assists surgical team, as needed, in any other capacity.
Some of the dutiesof a surgical first assist include - Assists in preparing rooms withappropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment. Assists with opening of sterile supplies. Assists in moving, positioning, prepping, anddraping patients for surgical procedures. Assists the surgical team during operative procedures, anticipatingneeds of surgeon. Functions as assistant to surgeon, as evidenced by retracting tissue and exposing the operatingfield during operative procedures, providing homeostasis during surgical procedures and assisting inclosure of incisions.
This Full timeposition is scheduled for 10+ hour day shifts and is also scheduled to be oncall as needed.
High school diplomarequired.
Successfulcompletion of Accredited Surgical First Assistant (RNFA, CFA, or CSA) programrequired.
Two (2) years ORexperience as Surgical Tech or RN required.
One (1) year FirstAssistant experience strongly preferred.
Ability to performall surgical skills required to assist Surgeon withprocedures.
Required: For CSA orCFA, certification and BLS required.
For RNFAunrestricted Arizona RN license, certification, BLS and ACLS.
Preferred: For CSA, SA-C or CFA, ACLSpreferred
*Must be able to provide Documentation of 100 cases as a First Assistant in the past 2 years for credentialing process
