The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist Implementsclinical documentation improvement (CDI) activities in an effort to supportaccuracy and quality of the patient records at CHS facilities and to ensurethat coded diagnoses are an accurate reflection of the patient’s clinicalstatus and care.
The role of the CDI specialist involves reviewing the medicalrecord documentation and clinical indicators and working with providers toensure a complete and accurate medical record. An accurate medical record isimportant for the patient, for continuity of care by the next provider, and todemonstrate high quality care by the physician and the hospital. The CDISpecialist will identify potential gaps in clinical documentation for inpatientand payer populations as directed throughout the hospitalization. He/she willalso educate physicians and key healthcare providers regarding clinicaldocumentation improvement and the need for accurate and complete documentationin the health record.
ADN or Diploma inNursing Program, BSN preferred.
Must possess atleast five years of acute hospital nursing experience (e.g. medical/surgicalunit, intensive care).
Experience inUtilization Management/Case Management, Critical Care, patient outcomes/qualitymanagement and/or inpatient coding, ICU/Critical Care, clinical documentationimprovement, ICD coding and MS-DRGs, working in a clinical documentationimprovement department or as a consultant and minimum of one (1) year auditingexperience."

Strong criticalthinking skills and ability to integrate knowledge is necessary. Prioritizationand organizational skills required. Must exhibit the ability to educate membersof the healthcare team about clinical documentation. Individual mustdemonstrate data quality and integrity skills.
To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual should have strong working knowledge of wordprocessing software, spreadsheet software and reporting software. Also, experience working with encodersoftware, clinical documentation improvement software and the electronicmedical record is preferred.
English is requiredfor both verbal and written communication. Ability to communicate effectively at a high level isrequired."

Preferred: RHIT,RHIA, CDIP, CDIS, CCDS, CCS and ICD-10 certification or designation."
