Description
 

The HIM TechII,  Analyzes and assigns for completionall records of discharged patients to ensure compliance with establishedhospital policies and procedures and other regulatory requirements, collectsand compiles statically data, monitors performance and creates action plans asneeded.        

  • Adheres to and interprets hospital/corporate policies regarding HIPAA Privacy Regulations as evidenced by: Accessing patient information needed to complete their job, discussing patient medical history only with those with a need to know, being aware of their surroundings and who might overhear conversations and responding appropriately before discussing Protected Health Information (PHI), verifies that parties requesting PHI have appropriate authority before obtain PHI.
  • Preps Charts or loose papers for designated service in a timely manner (i.e.. INPT/OBS/ER/UC/SOP/CLI/RCR etc.) according to established procedure.
  • Scans documentation in a timely manner (visits, loose sheets, ROI etc.) using the correct batch cover names and batch classes according to the established procedure.
  • Quality Controls (QC) documentation in a timely manner (visits, loose sheets, ROI etc.) by grouping patients and barcodes in proper books and ensuring good quality images according to established procedure.
  • Validates documentation in a timely manner (visits, loose sheets, ROI etc.) by assigning proper encounter numbers and barcode alias to each document according to the established procedure.
  • Analyzes designated services in a timely manner (i.e.. INPT/OBS/ER/SOP etc.) by assigning proper deficiencies per Joint Commission and facility guidelines for signature, co-signature, and dictations according to the established procedure.
  • Maintains the accuracy and timeliness of the department stat board/audit spreadsheets for their assigned section (i.e., ICR, ER, UC, Warehouse, etc..) by updating as established.
  • Take a sense of ownership and assists management with coverage and special projects; is team oriented and is flexible in work habits and projects a positive attitude at all times, especially when faced with difficult challenges.
  • Monitors and works each task queue as required; corrects information in the EMR system and does follow up with any necessary departments.  
  • Frequently provides leadership and assistance to clerical staff and customers on a daily basis. Can lead a small team (2-3 employees) and communicate clearly defined expectations and outcomes to team members and ensure that those expectations and outcomes have been met. Assists with troubleshooting minor computer, printer or copier problems.
  • Assists with training and education of co-workers/physicians, establishes and maintains a harmonious working environment with all level of staff .
  • Performs other job duties relevant to the position as assigned.

Qualifications
 
Education:

High Schooldiploma/GED preferred or equivalent experience required.  Completion of a records management programpreferred.

Experience:

At least two (2)years previous medical records experiencerequired.        

Skills:

Ability to followwritten and oral instructions and established procedures.  Ability to answer multi-line telephones,maintain filing systems, and research data.
